Munnar Tourism is one of the most popular destinations in Kerala.  This charming hill station is perched at an altitude of 1600m amidst lush and undulating hills of Anamalai rangers.  It is about 130km east of Kochi and 110km north of the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary.  It is in the centre of Keralas principal tea growing region.  The word Munnar gives the literally meaning as 3 rivers.  It is set at the confluence of three mountain ranges.  They are Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.  Once upon a time it was the summer capital of the British in South India and still retains an aura of old world elegance.  This beautiful landscape is dotted with lakes reservoirs, lush forest and sprawling tea estates.  There is plenty to enthuse in the surrounding mountains.  Pepper, rubber and cardamom plantations lend a distinct aroma to the cool and bracing climate of the hill resort.  Anaimudi is about 2695m is the highest peak in south India which is located nearby and it is an ideal spot for trekking.

Munnar gives us refreshing climate with crisp mornings and sunny blue skies in the winter though as with all of Kerala torrential rains descended during the monsoon. The mountain summits form a wild back drop to the carefully manicured tea plantations when the mists clear.  Munnars greenery and cool air attracts well heeled honeymooner and weekenders from the metropolitan cities of South India.

Tea gardens

The lush and beautiful tea gardens are the main attraction of Munnar.  We can watch the manufacturing of tea at the tea factories here.  Many factories also offer tea on sale for the visitors.
